Everyone has their individual quirks, Presidents included. The only difference is they don't have the opportunity to keep 'fun facts' or personal information private thanks to their err..rather lofty career choice. Running a country like America's administration is no small matter and this man has done it for four years. He liked it so much that he's fighting to take on Round 2 of his challenging post.
With all the torrid debates and inflammatory articles that tend to go viral around such Presidential battles, we decided to take a lighter approach. Here are ten fun facts about President Barack Obama.
Fact One: Barack Obama was known for his exceptional basketball skills whilst still in high school. In fact they were so renowned that it earned him the nickname of "O'Bomber." Even his own grandmother nicknamed him 'Bar.' Hmm, wonder why the Republicans don't use that against him!
Fact Two: Obama spent some time in Indonesia when he was young and had some interesting experiences there. Aside from feasting on local delicacies like dog meat, snake meat and roasted grasshopper, he even housed a pet ape named Tata.
Fact Three: A few of his favourite things? Moby Dick and The Bible in the literature realm, Casablanca and One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest in the film realm and Michelle Obama's apparently scrumptious shrimp linguini in the food realm. He's also an avid lover of comics and is known to collect Spider-man and Conan the Barbarian comics. As far as TV shows go, he loves Mash and The Wire.
Fact Four: Obama's admitted to having dabbled in some experimentation with marijuana and cocaine in his younger, collegiate days but the only vice he continued to indulge in were his cigarettes. Rumour has it that the charismatic President promised his wife Michelle that he'd kick the butt before running for President but he never did. Only now has he managed to do what he promised and he chews nicotine gum to quell the cravings.
Fact Five: His Senate office desk once belonged to Robert Kennedy. On it he keeps a carving of a wooden hand holding an egg which is a Kenyan symbol for the fragility of life.
Fact Six: Obama's a rock star. The man's already won two Grammy's for audio versions of his books Dreams From My Father and The Audacity Of Hope.
Fact Seven: His family life was far from ordinary. He has eight half-siblings all through four other marriages of both of his parents. A story goes that when he arrived at one of his half sister's fiance's stag party, he left as soon as the stripper arrived. We don't know who's luckier, Michelle or America.
Fact Eight: Ever wondered where a President cuts his hair? Well, Obama has no qualms in letting you know he has his locks cut once a week by his Chicago barber Zariff. He's charged $21 each time.
Fact Nine: If he ever has any free time, he can play endless hours of scrabble and poker.
Fact Ten: And finally, if fate hadn't led this unlikely candidate into a life in the public spotlight and politics, Obama would have opted to become an architect.
