Imagine a hybrid of 2 of music's most intense avatars—death metal and trance. Now that you've envisioned it, believe it, because it's a real genre, sub-genre or whatever music nerds want to call it. And it's called trance metal. Though I should probably point out that its death metal facet is more 'melodic' than you're used to it being in actual Death metal.

This kind of music is heavily influenced by guitar riffs with little or no breakdown grooves at all. Think bands like In Flames, Children of Bodom or Dark Tranquility. Either way, it's an extremely young genre of music that has evolved a lot over the years.

Once the band has all its metal elements down they mix it up with trance or electronic genres. The genre really emerged in the early 2000s so it's fair to say it's still a foetus but definitely not one the bands keeping it alive are willing to abort any time soon.

In case you're interested in giving it a listen try bands like The Dawn Chose Orion, who were the first to start incorporating techno and trance beats into the atmospheric elements of their music.
