Nancy Huston’s erotic novel Infrared has received one of the literary world’s least coveted prizes: the Bad Sex award.

Despite missing out on the tongue-in-cheek award, EL James claimed the prize for Popular Fiction Book of the Year at the Specsavers National Book Awards.

The erotic novel saw off competition from five other books including Bernard Cornwell’s historical novel 1356 and Kate Mosse’s Citadel, the Telegraph reported.

The book, the first in a trilogy of x-rated tales, has become a literary phenomenon, selling more than 5.3 million copies to become the bestselling book of all time in the UK.

James was just one of the female authors dominating the prizes, with eight other women winning accolades for their work at the awards ceremony.
