After months of vying for the US Republican presidential nomination, Minnesota representative Michele Bachmann finally ended her ill-fated campaign. After finishing dead last in the Iowa caucuses (an important component of the nomination process), the gaffe-prone 55-year-old had no choice but to return to her regular gig as a conspiracy theorist and a full-time political disaster zone!
During the Iowa caucuses, Bachmann's campaign hit several several organizational and logistical snags. To add to this, many of her key campaign personnel abandoned her and joined rival Ron Paul's camp!
Bachmann's views on sensitive issues like global warming, gay marriage and government spending have been severely criticized. While her conservative stance seemed appealing to most hardline Republicans, she failed to provide valid solutions either and often ended up blaming Democrats for America's misfortunes! After blaming her Iowa failure on her straight-shooting and uncompromising approach she said, "I didn't tell you what the polls said you wanted to hear." And this is about the sanest statement she's made in months!
All in all, Bachmann officially pulling out her nomination will be welcome news to those tirelessly working on her campaign as well, seeing as how they won't have to mop up after her anymore!
So, for effectively ruining her own campaign by routinely making ridiculous remarks, we crown Michele Bachmann our 'idiot of the week!'
Here are some of Michele Bachmann's most famous gaffes just to give you a few laughs:
-"I will tell you that I had a mother last night come up to me here in Tampa, Florida, after the debate. She told me that her little daughter took a vaccine, that injection, and she suffered from mental retardation thereafter."
- "I find it interesting that it was back in the 1970s that the swine flu broke out under another Democrat president, Jimmy Carter. I'm not blaming this on President Obama, I just think it's an interesting coincidence."
-"Carbon dioxide is portrayed as harmful. But there isn't even one study that can be produced that shows that carbon dioxide is a harmful gas."
-"If we took away the minimum wage--if conceivably it was gone--we could potentially virtually wipe out unemployment completely because we would be able to offer jobs at whatever level."
-"Not all cultures are equal."
-"Lady Liberty and Sarah Palin are lit by the same torch.”
-“The big thing we are working on now is the global warming hoax. It's all voodoo, nonsense, hokum, a hoax.”
-“The President of the United States will be taking a trip over to India that is expected to cost the taxpayers $200 million a day.”
