Source-ANI: Web giant Google has unveiled its new Google Fiber service in Kansas City, USA, which is capable of providing Internet access at over 100 times faster than today’s average broadband rate. After conducting a nationwide search involving over 1,100 cities, Google settled on the Midwestern hub as the debut point for the new Internet service, which has been as termed as “Gigabit” on the Google Fiber blog.

According to the New York Daily News, “gigabit speed” would mean that online data would travel at 1,000 megabits per second, a speed that is not present in the United States currently. The new high speeds would not accelerate basic website or email functionality, but users reap the benefits when sharing videos and backing up files.

Google has billed its foray into Fiber as an opening up of communities to choice, as the firm wrote on the Fiber blog that “choice is better than no choice. Competition and choice help make products better for users.” Google’s ‘Fiber’ is also being seen as a clear attempt at product diversification, as in the past few years, the firm has expanded beyond its original search sector and into the mobile phone, online video, and navigation services, among many others, the report said.

The Bay Area company will offer customers in Kansas a premium option called “Gigabit + Google Fiber TV,” offering an entire gig of internet, HD television, and a Nexus 7 tablet for 120 dollars per month, while a simpler “Gigabit Internet” option will also be available for consumers at 70 dollars.
