Forget the men at Roland Garros--Sania Mirza's our sports hero of the week. All her detractors had pretty much written her off; she'll never feature anywhere that matters in a Grand Slam, they said. Marriage has finished her as a player, they said.

Clearly, they were wrong. Sania and partner Elena Vesnina stormed their way into the French Open doubles finals, beating the top seeds on their way there. Alas, the Czech duo of Andrea Hlavackova and Lucie Hredecka proved strong competition, and Sania Vesnina had to settle for second place.

Still, it was an inspiring effort, and a clear message to all and sundry that Mrs. Mirza-Malik (or is it the other way around?) has till got what it takes to succeed on a tennis court.
