So you're a popular politician--a US congressman, no less, and have held on to your coveted New York seat for 12 years. You've got a massive following among the Democratic Party, and even the independents are starting to think of you as a future senator or perhaps even more.

Oh, and you're happily married, and your wife is pregnant. Seems like life couldn't be better, right?

Wrong. If you're Anthony David Weiner, you get on Twitter and destroy your life in a matter of days. 

On May 27, 2011 Weiner announced that his Twitter account had been "hacked." The reason for this declaration? A 21-year old follower of his on the popular social network had received a picture of a man's penis from Weiner's account. 

Weiner strenuously denied he had anything to do with the picture, and then his house of cards all came tumbling down. More women emerged, some of whom had been sent this topless image of the randy politician.

More allegations followed--phonesex, flirting with an underage teenager, more explicit tweets. And then the inevitable admission--yes, Weiner, said, it was all him. 

Weiner's future is uncertain as best. The police are looking into his contact with the underage girl, an ethics investigation is examining whether he misused any official resourced during his online adventures, and several leaders from his own party have called for his resignation. Add to the fact that his last name is slang for male genitalia in the USA and you've got a perfect media storm. 

We feel a little sorry for you, Anthony Weiner, but you're our Idiot of the Week.
