It's common knowledge today that the box-office smashing 'The Dirty Picture' was inspired by the life of sultry South Indian actress, Silk Smitha. Her persona was perpetuated by her taste for 'erotic' roles, and it was no surprise when the film went on to achieve cult status.

Of course, Vidya Balan's power-packed performance played a huge hand in this. Plus all that skin show and extra flesh definitely added to the film's appeal.
