Does this really come as any shock to you? Earlier this year, an all-encompassing study concluded that India is possibly the worst place for a woman to live in among all the world's developed nations. The combination of female infanticide, child marriage, lack of education and overall grossly unequal treatment proved to be a combination too stellar to beat.

Besides all of the above-mentioned atrocities, women also account fro 39% of all adult HIV infections in India and it is hardly uncommon for young married women to suffer terrible abuse at the hands of their husbands and in-laws, especially when demanding the outlawed 'dowry.'
