From extreme anti-gay groups to vitriol-spewing leaders, these cults are some of the weirdest (if not the scariest) the world has ever seen

World's Weirdest Cults

Aum Shinrikyo

This Japanese religious group--at one point--had enough sarin gas to kill 4 million people. When they attacked five trains in the Tokyo subway system, they killed 12 people and injured 54 others. As of 1998, the group was reported to have 9000 members within Japan and over 40,000 around the world.

Created by Shoko Asahara, the core of their beliefs is shockingly based on Buddhist scriptures. Police forces organized a raid of their facility, and Asahara was ultimately arrested but even without his leadership the cult regrouped under the code name of ‘Aleph’ in 2000.
