Gilles Villeneuve
Gilles Villeneuve passed away in a deadly accident at the Belgian Grand Prix on May 8, 1982. In a bid to qualify for the race, Villeneuve was setting his best time but made contact with Jochen Mass' wheel, which threw him into the air and totalled his car. He was found strapped to his car, albeit without a helmet. He died due to a neck fracture.
