The unruly men ruled the high seas with a hook and an iron fist!
Blackbeard
This was the name given to one of England's most notorious pirates thanks to his long, lustrous black beard. His real name was Edward Teach and he earned his fame raiding ships along the Atlantic coast of North America from 1716 to 1718.
He is known to have terrorized the coastal settlements of Virginia and the Carolinas as well but was finally killed in an encounter with a special force that was sent from Virginia to track him down. His body was decapitated and his head affixed upon the end of his ship to serve as a warning to pirates everywhere. He lives on through legends of his treasure, reported to still be buried in several island hideaways.
