The Early Days

Born on March 1, 1983 in a modest Manipuri family, her parents worked in hum fields. She completed her primary education from Loktak Christian Model High School, St. Xavier School and eventually moved to Adimjati High School; but she couldn't pass her exams. She was a stellar all-round athlete from an early age and developed a keen interest in sport. It was the legendary Dingko Singh that truly inspired her to turn to boxing. 

Initially, she tried to hide her interest in the sport from her family as it was somewhat taboo for a woman to take up such a violent sport. It took a lot of coaxing to get her father to allow her to continue. Now, he is a proud supporter of his daughter and has even accompanied her to several big tournaments!
