241 not out vs. Australia, January 4, 2004
This particular test was supposed to mark Steve Waugh's glorious exit from international cricket. However, the drawn match meant India had tied the series and retained the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. It also meant that Man of the Match Sachin Tendulkar had successfully stolen the spotlight from one of the greatest Australian test captains!
Tendulkar's marathon knock in the first innings ensured that the Australians had to resort to defensive batting to avoid an embarrassing series loss to a team they had grossly underestimated!
