ICC to Do Away with Umpires by 2014
Given the advancements in computerized systems like Hawk-Eye, Hot Spot and Snickometer, the International Cricket Council has voted in favor of abolishing human umpires by the 2014 season. The special committee appointed by the ICC to arrive at this conclusion also cited glaring umpiring errors by seasoned veterans like Steve Bucknor and Darrell Hair as supplemental reasons to back their decision.
"Our goal is to ensure cricket and cricketing philosophy is aligned with current times. Sadly, there's no place in this wonderful sport for the age-old practice of humanized refereeing by aging umpires," said 97-year-old Lord Duckington III, who headed the afore-mentioned committee.
