Ken Follett's written over 30 books and sold over 100 million of them. In honour of his 62nd birthday, here are the best 5 from the master of the epic and spy thriller genres

Pillars of the Earth

This novel was his first foray outside the thriller genre. Set in the fictional town of Kingsbridge, Englandthe novel traces the development of gothic architecture and the fortunes of the town against actual historical events of the time. As you can imagine it makes for a seriously interesting read, and is informative too.  The book went on to be listed at no. 33 on BBC’s Big Read, a privileged must-read for Oprah’s book club etc. All well-deserved without a doubt.
